That’s right. It’s been a long time coming, but we won. Our first game ever. Score? 5-3 and the 3 points we gave up were all on us, not because of them pressing the ball. We made small mistakes that game them two PK’s and one totally freak score.

We didn’t just control the mid-field we dominated with our outstanding ball control and ability to actually force them to turn the ball over. Ken tended the goal well, but honestly Ken was pretty bored back there yesterday as they only got a handfull of shots on goal. Our front line was busy the entire game as we played deep into their end of the field for the bulk of the game.

A great win fellas (and ladies!!!!). Attending the game was: Artie, Darren, Darrell, Dean, Drew, Gary, Gerry, Jerrett, JoeC, Jolly, Ken, Michael S, Michelle, Peter, Roberto (Robby), Ted and Vladi. 17 people turned out! Awesome! We sub’d a LOT during the game and used it to our advantage. No one let pride get in the way of the team by refusing to come out and it showed - lots of fast moving players out there. Let’s keep that up guys!

Remember everyone, we have a game tomorrow - 2:30PM at LYSA against our friends at LTN Soccer Club. Please be there as close to time as possible. Also bring both jerseys. Gerry hasn’t stated a preference for color in his team emails, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say green/black. However, bring both just in case. I hope to see a good turnout tomorrow!

And lastly, I know that there are some of us who are still learning a thing or two about the rules of football (soccer) as we advance in our leage. I decided to post a video explaining the offside rule.

There are some soccer videos that are too amazing to be believed. I ran across this one this morning on DeadSpin.

Mark your calendars for a game coming up on 11/17/2008 against the Murfreesboro team we played before. This game will be played at Walter J. Baird’s Middle School field (which should be a pretty nice place to play, btw). We’ll have more details soon - just wanted to let people know as soon as possible so you could all plan accordingly.

Coach Michelle and Peter would like to invite anyone interested for a practice session this Wednesday at Castle Heights behind Wilson Bank. We will start around 6.30pm to allow everyone time to get home from work. This is an off the cuff invite and you do not need to attend it is just an offer and to help us prepare for Saturday’s game.

Please email me however if you plan to be there so I have an idea of the numbers.

Also remember that we have a game this coming Saturday at 2.30pm at LYSA.

Taken from the email Gerry sent to the group:

We had a short practice and Team Meeting on Monday. We had a fair turnout and I think the practice was enjoyed by all. I wanted to thank you for your continued support of the team and I for one am very happy that the team will continue on throughout the winter months. I have listed a few decisions that we made as a team and everyone attending was in favor of.

  • It was agreed that we will write a check for $100 as a gesture to Peter and Michelle for their continued support in coaching our team for free. We will do this on November 1st.
  • We will purchase 4 soccer balls for the team, we trialed one of these balls on Monday and they are extremely good quality and should last us for some time. These balls are normally over $100 each. Ken was able to secure these for $50 each.
  • We will develop a calendar for our website and post schedules several weeks/months in advance. Ted forwarded this to Joe earlier in the week (Thanks Ted!)
  • We will practice one day each weekend during the winter and maybe have some off the cuff get togethers that are optional.
  • We have a game scheduled for Saturday 11/8/08 at 2.30pm. This is the only time that suited the other team and gives us enough day light to finish the game.
  • We discussed the possibility of alternating days for practice to allow everyone to attend
  • Communication, if an email is sent requesting attendance numbers, please take a moment to let us know if you will be attending as it may help us understand the numbers instead of 4 people turning up. I understand this is tough to do if you are given short notice.

Who will and won’t be at the game on Saturday November 8th??

This is about all I remember or have notes from our faithful secretary Ken.

When Joe has the calendar ready, we will throw in some practice days and nights as well as some scheduled games. Outside our attendees, we had 3 people who emailed with reasons for not attending and 3 people missing in action. Please let me know if you would like to be removed from the emailing list or team squad.

We appreciate everyones time and effort.

Sorry about the lack of updates, I’ve been out of town on vacation. However, I am back now! I know you are all happy. :) Anyway, there is a practice and a seriously important all-hands-on-deck team meeting tonight. Be there at 5:45 (or as near to it as you can). We’re meeting at LYSA.

I’m not 100% of that score, but it is close enough. We had a good number of people turn up, which was a nice change. The weather for the game could have hardly been any more perfect than what we had yesterday. It was great outside. It was a good game with us steadily improving later in the game (seems to be a pattern for us!). We need to work on getting better to start. But we had our first match with a red card (not against us), everyone was aching for a win - so things got a little more competitive. Still had a great game and good performances from everyone.

Here is who turned up to play yesterday: Artie, Darren, Darrell, Dean, Drew, Gerry, Jerrett, JoeC, Josh, Ted, Michelle, Scott, Terry and Vladi.

Gerry was talking about another match against Murfreesboro coming up on Saturday (if he can agree to get them to agree to come out). More news about that later.

Heads up everyone. We are going to have a practice tomorrow at LYSA at 5:45 or as close as you can get there to 5:45. We need to bring up our attendance from the past few weeks. I hope to see more than ten people show up for this! We have 26 memberws - more than 10 need to show up. See you all there.

Whew, that was a difficult game. We only had nine people show up: Artie, Darrell, Dean, Gerry, Jerrett, JoeC, Ted, Terry and Troy. LTN Soccer Club ended up letting us borrow a few players. Which let us sub out a person here and there for a rest. But it was pretty rough on the rest of us and the LTN guys really took advantage of us in the midfield, playing a LOT of people there and not letting us move the ball around as much as we wanted.

However, we played well for what we had. The next game we’ll have no excuses - you guys have two weeks notice. I hope everyone can make it and support our team.

We may have a practice as well, but word hasn’t made it’s way to me yet about that. I will keep you informed.
